Dr. Saad Saad: Pediatric Surgeon and Medical Inventor

Dr. Saad Saad began his medical education by studying at Cairo University in Egypt. After these studies were completed, he went to the United Kingdom to complete an internship.

 

With his medical training at an end, Dr. Saad set up practice in Saudi Arabia working and the King Faisal Hospital. For a time, he was the physician for the children of the royal family of Saudi Arabia.

 

Dr. Saad and his family moved to the United States, where he practiced at the K Hovnanian Children Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Saad performed thousands of operations while on staff, and he pioneered a number of inventive surgical procedures.

 

In addition to his work in the hospital, Dr. Saad has traveled extensively to the West Bank in order to help children in need of complex medical procedures. The doctor accepts no compensation for the work he does while in the West Bank.

 

Besides being a highly-regarded pediatric surgeon, Dr. Saad is a medical inventor with two patents for medical devices registered to him. One of his inventions is now being extensively used by physicians around the world. His second invention is just starting to get off the ground, but great things are expected as more doctors learn about the benefits of this device.

 

Dr. Saad’s well-known medical invention is an endoscope with a built-in suction device at the end. With a traditional endoscope, the physician has to completely remove the endoscope from the patient each time that the endoscope has to be suctioned out and cleaned. With Dr. Saad’s invention, the physician is able to keep the endoscope in place throughout the course of the procedure. The physician can turn on the suction and clean the endoscope as the need arises.

 

The second device that Dr. Saad has patented is an electromagnetic catheter. As it now stands, a doctor can track a catheter two ways. A series of x-rays can be taken to track the catheter’s progress. An MRI can also be used to track the progress of the catheter through the patient. Both of these methods have significant drawbacks. X-rays expose the patient to significant amounts of radiation. An MRI is not portable, so it is of limited use.

 

Dr. Saad’s electromagnetic catheter works somewhat like a metal detector. The tip10 of the catheter is magnetized. By using a tracking device, the physician can pick up the signal of the catheter as it makes its way through the patient.
