Obsidian Energy Employs A Power-House Team Of Professionals

Obsidian Energy is an Alberta Canada based oil and gas producer that creates roughly 30,000 boe per day. Obsidian Energy was previously known as Penn West Petroleum Ltd but on June 26, 2017 they changed their name. This name change wasn’t the only change that Obsidian underwent, along with the name change Obsidian also redefined every aspect of their business.


Most of the oil and gas fields that Obsidian utilizes are located along the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. This is one of the largest petroleum reserves in the Alberta Canada region. The production of petroleum in this region comes from three important areas that include the Peace River Oil Sands, the Pembina Cardium and the Alberta Viking.


The Obsidian Energy management team consists of David French, David Hendry, Tony Berthelet, Andrew Sweerts and Mark Hodgson. David French is the current President and CEO of Obsidian Energy. Mr. French has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University. David also earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. In addition to working in Alberta he was also employed in the United States and Europe prior to joining Obsidian Energy. David Hendry is the current Chief Financial Officer at Obsidian Energy and has over twenty-five years of experience within the finance industry. Tony Berthelet holds the position of Vice President of Development and Operations at Obsidian Energy. He has held this position since June of 2016 and has an impressive resume with 19 years of energy industry experience. Tony has a degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. Andrew Sweerts is the Vice President of Production and Technical Services and joined the Obsidian team in June of 2014. Andrew has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He also has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Wilfred Laurier University. Mark Hodgson is the Vice President of Business Development and Commercial.
